Cuban ballet student wins South Africa’s competition

Cuba’s National Center of Art Schools highlighted on Monday the triumph of the student Yasiel Hodelin in the 7th International Online Ballet Competition of South Africa (SAIBC).
The student of the National Ballet School Fernando Alonso recently conquered the second position in the Juniors category of the contest in which 155 youngsters from numerous countries participated.

Due to the impact of Covid-19 in the world, the 7th edition of the event had to appeal to a unique and pioneering proposal: to meet in a virtual way, even a series of free daily workshops were broadcast live on the SAIBC Facebook website.

The grade from the National Center for Art Schools highlights the quality of the Cuban ballet teaching method, as well as the high level of its students and teachers.

The jury of the competition had as its member the deputy director of the National Ballet School of Cuba Fernando Alonso, Martha Iris Fernandez.

Such jury was chaired by the artistic director of the Dutch National Ballet in the Netherlands, Ted Brandsen, and also included other directors of companies in Portugal, South Korea and Germany.
