The US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba in the last six decades is completely contrary to the culture of peace, the delegation from that country to the United Nations highlighted on Thursday. Cuba’s alternate permanent representative to the UN, Ana Silvia Rodriguez, denounced how her country faces, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the unprecedented tightening of that blockade.
Speaking at the High Level Forum on Culture of Peace, the ambassador referred to the fact that despite the health crisis, unilateral coercive measures continue to be applied, contrary to the UN Charter and International Law.
The pandemic very clearly unfolded the unfair international order in which we live, the inequality within and among countries, the diplomat noted.
It also exposed the advance of unilateralism and the lack of solidarity of the powers towards developing countries to face together, with a single voice, this and other pressing and common challenges, the Rodriguez said.
In such a scenario, she assured, it is not possible to develop a culture of peace or advance in the implementation of the Declaration and Program of Action on it, in particular when the current pandemic is used to boost supremacist, racist and xenophobic ideas.
